Step 1: Remove and Number all Cabinet Facings and their Hardware.
- This is necessary when reassembling the facings, this will prevent misaligned doors/drawers.
Step 2: Degrease all Surfaces with Industrial Degreaser.
- Without doing this step PRIOR to sanding, any trapped oils will be pushed into the wood. This makes primer adhesion more difficult and can lead to paint failure.
Step 3: Sanding all Facings and Frames.
- All old finishes & paint must be sanded down in order for new paint adhesion. This takes care of most imperfections and provides a stable smooth surface. Those imperfections remaining will be filled / sanded accordingly. This is probably the most important step people miss and takes the most time. After properly sanded, an alcohol treatment is done to ensure a clean surface.
Step 4: Industrial Primer Applied X2 / Sanding between Coats.
- An industrial primer is essential when professionally painting wood cabinets as the wrong primer will allow the wood tannins to bleed through to the paint. This causes dark spotting on your new cabinets and looks terrible. Sometimes it is immediate and other times it takes months for it to show. An industrial grade primer is an essential product in order to get professionally painted cabinets. Between each coat, a sanding will be
done to ensure a smooth finish. Typically 2-3 primer coats applied.
Step 5: Industrial Coating Applied / HVLP Professional Paint System Application.
- All cabinet facings will receive (3) coatings with proper cure time and sanding between coats. This ensures a smooth finish that lasts. All facings will be sprayed off-site with a professional HVLP system. Proper cure times between coats is absolutely essential for a good finish and proper adhesion. Proper cure times is often overlooked by many painting companies. Adhering to strict cure times between coatings prevents the risk of premature paint failure and the lack of durability.
Step 6: Reinstall all Cabinets.
- Reinstallation of the cabinets with their original hardware. This placement will ensure all cabinets line up correctly.
Remember! The only way to achieve professional quality painted cabinets is with the proper preparation and following a strict process. Proper cabinet painting takes time and experience - trust a company who specializes only in cabinets.
